We believe correct diagnosis of the cause and source of your pain is the first step in effective treatment. The Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) is a clinical evaluation and movement-based diagnostic system which systematically uncovers the cause of pain by logically breaking down dysfunctional movement patterns. This tool uses movements you do on a daily basis, such as bending forward and backward, twisting, squatting (like when you sit down in a chair), and standing on one leg (like when you walk – from one leg to the other) to find where breakdown in proper movement patterns are contributing to pain. The SFMA also indicates whether breakdown in movement is caused by restrictions or limitations in your joints or muscles or if it is due to non-optimal muscle activation and motor control around a joint or region due to weakness or bracing. Having a more comprehensive understanding of why your body is responding with pain during movement allows us to treat the root of your symptoms instead of chasing the pain you’re experiencing from all the ways your body has compensated for repetitive faulty movement.
